The Assassination and Funeral of Abraham Lincoln

The assassination of our 16th president has all the essentials of a murder mystery novel, but this story is true.

The program narrative begins four years before the murder of President Lincoln in 1865 and ends in 1963 with the death of the last person to have seen him.

President Lincoln’s first funeral was in Washington, D.C. and was followed by eleven subsequent ceremonies over a period of 20 days.  The 1,654 mile funeral procession included a stop in York, PA.

Thirty-six years later, President Lincoln was finally laid to rest for the last time after being moved seventeen times since his first entombment in Springfield, IL.

Program provided by Heffner Funeral Chapels & Crematory, York & Red Lion, and Beaver Urich Funeral Home, Lewisberry.
