Community Life

Our Community Life Program

At Providence Place one of our foundation principles is to help residents continue to live meaningful lives with a sense of purpose no matter their stage in life. To achieve this, we empower seniors to make decisions that shape their lifestyle. We are always searching for new activities and events to enrich our residents’ lives at Providence Place. Through committee meetings and clubs, residents choose activity programs and menu offerings that are of interest to them. By listening and responding to our residents, we find ways to add meaning to their lives.

Typical Providence Place Activities

Our wide variety of activities means that residents have a chance to participate in their favorite past times or experience something new while living at Providence Place. We offer weekly outings, club meetings, guest speakers, and fitness groups. With all the options we ensure that there is something of interest for everyone. Our calendar of events varies based on location, to view your local community newsletters, click here. Check out some of the options we offer to our residents:

These events are available for all to attend. Here are some examples of activities that residents look forward to during a typical week.

  • Bus Trip to Apple Orchard: Pick your own apples. Help fill a bushel basket to make homemade apple pies.
  • Social Hour with Piano Music: Enjoy a refreshment of your choosing while listening to piano music with friends.
  • Paint Night: Create your own artwork while receiving step-by-step instruction from an artist.
  • Local History Lecture: Listen to a presentation by the local Historical Society to learn interesting facts about the history of your county or town.
  • Dining Committee Meeting: Critique the menu and provide input to the Dining Director that will make your dining experience even more enjoyable.

Our clubs and daily activities may vary in time and place but are consistently full of fun. Crafter’s Club: Join others who enjoy creating arts and crafts. Make your own soaps or candles to give as gifts. Yoga Class: Learn the basics of Yoga from a professional fitness instructor. News and Views: Discuss the daily headlines and share your views on local, national, and world news. Nature Club: Participate in a nature walk on the paved trail while identifying native plant and bird species. Choir Practice: Join the choir to practice for performances on and off the campus.

These one time or annual events give residents a chance to interact with community members as well as practice kind acts towards others. Antique Car Show: Appreciate the display of classic cars while supporting a worthwhile cause. This is just one example of a community event that raises funds for Alzheimer’s research. Veteran’s Day Celebration: Gather around the flag pole for a patriotic service followed by live music to recognize our residents who are veterans. Holiday Craft Bazaar: Browse the handmade works from dozens of vendors while shopping for holiday gifts. Walk to End Alzheimer’s: Join the Providence Place team as we walk to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Association.

Presentations by guest speakers are hugely popular with our residents. In the past we’ve had historians, hobbyists, and professors present a wide array of topics and classes. We’re always bringing in speakers to enrich our residents’ lives and support lifelong learning. We believe it’s never too late in life to learn something new!
